Your Donation is Critical to the Orchestra's Continued Success
Our Financial Model
It is no secret that orchestras are finding it ever more difficult to continue operating, especially in these difficult economic times. As a largely volunteer ensemble, the Carlisle Chamber Orchestra has been able to maintain its operations with a very low overall budget of approximately $30K to enable presentation of five performances. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic we will not be performing during the 2020-2021but we will still have a number of ongoing expenses which must be met to enable returning with a full schedule during the 2021-2022 season.
We have chosen to offer our concerts free to the public with a request for donations at the door in order to make the concerts available to those with limited means. It also acts as an incentive to people who may be unsure about whether they will enjoy a classical concert. This strategy has proved successful because most attendees, especially those who have attended prior concerts, make the donation without hesitation. Corporate and business donors also appreciate that they are supporting performances that are easily accessible to all regardless of financial means.
In any case, the income from donations at the gate provides only a fraction of the orchestra's operating cost. Public grants, corporate contributions, and private donations are needed to recruit guest artists, pay for music rental, and provide some measure of compensation for those orchestra members with exceptional levels of skill and responsibiliity.
